2016: Day 5 Go West...Arizona to California

Last day of long travel for a couple weeks.  We had some rain the last two nights in Williams. Storms threaten all afternoon but didn't reach us until after we were in bed. The lightening show was pretty good in the mountains.  We were up and on the road headed West to California before 7 a.m. Big advantage to not being adjusted to the time change yet.

It was about 11 hours of driving. Again the amount of wind and the mountain grades slowed us down a bit.  535 miles. When we picked up the motorhome in the Spring, the seal around the windshield was a bit loose. This wind is so strong that it knocked the whole thing loose. The motorhome is too tall for Jason to reach the top of it, so he ended up pealing it off and we'll have to fix it when we get to Buellton.  At one stop, I was making lunch while Jason was fueling up. The generator was on to run the A/C units in the house & a fuse blew because I used the microwave for 30 seconds. Jason popped it back on but the bedroom A/C unit wouldn't work.  He got on the roof, checked it out, it's not totally dead because he can hear it click over so more investigation is needed. Luckily, we will not need he air condition in the evenings once we are in Buellton because it cools down in the evenings.

Why are we going to California? Jason is going to the office! He is the President and CEO of Tilton Engineering which is located in Buellton, Northern Santa Barbara County (140 miles North of Los Angeles). He is working here for he next two weeks.
Tilton Engineering is building a brand new facility on it's current property. The office, machine shop, warehouse, and assembly will all be under one roof. It's nearing the final stages and we are so excited to see it.

We're here! Staying at
Flying Flags RV Resort. It's about a mile down the road from the office and it's a popular tourist stop because it's on the highway 101 that runs along the Pacific coast. We stayed here in
2014  in the Tilton's motorhome, 2011 & 2012 in a cottage. The campground has made lots of improvements and additional since we were last here and I'll post pictures this week. It's in the heart of the Central Coast wine country.

We are in a back corner, next to grass (unusual in Cali) and have a great view of the mountain.

The kids were so happy to run around and blow bubbles and get off the road.
