Day 3
Another day of long driving! We left Amarillo early, and headed West on I-40 to Williams, Arizona. I was up early to get ready, made a trash run, and saw this beautiful sunrise coming from the East. No filter, just all natural beauty.
We drove through New Mexico to Arizona with no issues. But the wind really picked up in Arizona, blowing 10 mph+, and Jason stayed at the wheel. We stopped for a break at the Painted Desert & Petrified ForestNational Park. Lily & Charlie were happy to get another stamp in their passport books. The wind had blown so hard that it popped the seal around the windshield loose.
As much as we wanted to, we didn't go far into the Petrified Forest because we wanted to hit our next campground before dark. Arizona does not observed daylight savings time and the sun was setting at 7:30 p.m. today we took advantage of the long drive by working on multiplication flash cards with Charlie.
We are staying at the
Grand Canyon Railway Hotel & RV Resort in Williams, AZ. We stayed here two years ago when we visited the Grand Canyon. The campground is across the street from the hotel & the Railway that takes visitors to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We were exhausted, made spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and garlic bread for dinner and convinced the kids to swim the next day. Campers can use the hotel pool and all the amenities there. We were on the road for almost 11 hours and drove 630 miles. Tomorrow, we rest (kind of) and sight see.
