Day 26 South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Hello Grand Canyon! We were up and on the road to sight see before 8 am. Our plan was to take our time but not to spend all day. First we had to move the RV off the camp site because checkout was at 11 a.m. They were nice enough to let us park it in the employee parking lot & take the Jeep. Saylor stayed to watch over the RV. It was about an hour drive North to the South Rim. We drove through two forrest fires. The first was a controlled fire, set on purpose.  The smoke was pretty thick in the air, could see it hovering, and smelled it all through the vents. Didn't see actual flames. The second was a natural fire along the road just smoldering.

The Grand Canyon National Park is $25 for seven days, or you can buy the America the Beautiful pass.  On the drive up Jason talked to the kids about holding our hands, don't go close to the edge, there are not guard rails everywhere, people die every year falling. Sounds amlike the talk my parents gave me going to Niagra Falls when I was their age & telling me we had to go over in a barrel. Lol! They became a little frightened at that point.
Once we got there, Lily was like "wow, it's WAY bigger than I imagine!"

Charlie thought this was cool but said he like Wind Cave National Monument better.
Desert View Tower, general store, trading post
What can you say about this place? Spectacular! There are not too many other words. But Jason said he's bored with it after an hour!
We had lunch a little late outside the park, and drove back to hook up the Jeep & RV to hit the road East. It actually rained on the drive back to the RV. It's considered monsoon season in that region of Arizona. Droughts in California, moonsoons in Arizona. Go figure.

We headed out on Route 66/Interstate 40 East towards Albuquerque, New Mexico. Drove about 350 miles in 6 hours to the Weat side of Albuqerque & stayed at a Walmart parking lot. There were tons of security camera in the lot & two patrol cars all night. So we felt safe.
