Have I mentioned how many wineries are within a small radius of Buellton? ! Keep in mind Buellton has 2 stop lights, 4 fast food restaurants, a grocery store and CVS. Something like 50!!! Of
course we like to go tasting on Saturdays or Sundays. You can go during the week too, but most of the tasting rooms are only open til 5, and Jason is working. Have you seen the movie Sideways? Well that movie was made right here in Buellton, in the Santa Ynez Valley. Wine tasting used to be free around here. Even 11 years ago when Jason first brought me, but as soon as that movie came out, free now means $8-15. You get about two swallows a glass, so a lot of the times Jason and I share, if we go to 2 or 3. The last three times we have been out here, the kids go with us. They take their devices, a game, etc. They are good, chilling out. Today, we tried a new vineyard, Gainey. Friends of ours liked it so much they named their dog Gainey. It was pretty good but the bottles were sooo pricey, I wouldn't even splurge for a special occasion. ($40-50 a bottle)
Next we went out to Foxen Vineyard. Anchor is their symbol, long interesting family history with the land, farming, and an English Sea Captin. They have a great little patio with lots of hummingbirds. Instead of a tasting, we purchased a bottle of Rosè and had a picnic lunch. Cheese, wine, fruit, juice boxes for the kiddies, Ohhh and a good clean family fun game of UNO! That stinker Boo beat us 2 out of 3 games!
Last but not least, but definitely up the last mountain canyon, was our favorite Cambria. When Jason and I were here in October, we joined the wine club. Only problem is that because of Ohio laws the wine can't be shipped to Ohio every quarter. So we just have it shipped to the office here, and Jason either reships it to Ohio or saves it for a time like now when we are here. I had 3 fine bottles waiting for me. Nice thing about the wine club, free tastings for us. When we walked in, a set of oarents actually thanked us for bringing our children and Connect 4! Kids had someone to play with for a bit. Lol!
Have I also mentioned that we have had awesome weather every day if this trip? It rained our first night in Rushmore but cleared! Buellton is 90 during the day but by 6:30-7 pm, cools off by 15 degrees, perfect.
