We headed out of Canton after work on Friday to get a head start on the driving. About 295 miles to a Cracker Barrel in Rochester, NY. There is a town ordinance in the Buffalo area for no overnight parking, so we needed to go a bit further. We called ahead and asked the manager if it was ok to stay over night in the parking lot, and he gave us permission. There was a hotel next door and we stayed on that side. Nice and quite.
Of course we went into Cracker Barrel on Saturday morning to fill out bellies before heading out.
Not a wonderful way to start a trip. We drove all of Saturday, July 1st in the rain across NY, MASS, NH and up to the south of Maine. Most of the day had us under a lot of stress as a malfunction light appeared on our dash board. We were concerned that driving too much with it that way because the diesel engine can shut down into a "crawl home" mode at 5 mph. We stopped at an RV dealership but it was already 3:30 pm and no one was able to help us. Thankfully we were able to make it to our destination (Cabela's parking lot) and meet up with our friends. Cabela's is also another great place to stay if you are just passing through. The drive took about 13 hours and 745 miles from Rochester to Scarborough, ME.
We still had 178 miles more to go on Sunday!
Once we made it to our campground on Sunday, we knew we needed professional help for the motorhome. Fouth of July was two days away and figured we might as well enjoy ourselves for a few days. Frieghtliner arranged for a tow truck to come on Wednesday, the day after the holiday. More on that later. First, we needed a couple cocktails and some seafood. We found it down the street at Beal's Lobster Pier.

After dinner we took a long drive around Southwest Harbor to explore and enjoy the sunset.

We stayed in Southwest Harbor by Acadia National Park. Nice basic campground. Monday, we did a tour around the park with Oli's Trolley. We have found that it's so nice to be able to do a tour first when we arrive at a national park, then go back and see the things we really want to the next day. We picked up the trolley in Bar Harbor. Such a cute little town. The cruise ships are starting to come into that harbor more frequently. The townspeople said it's getting to be just too much. The streets were covered with people.
The tour took us all around the park and stopped at several major lookouts. Cadillac Mountain was of course the best. There are 360 degree views. Just stunning.

We finished our day with a good ole' game of National Parks Monopoly.
We started July 4th by hiking up the North Bubble over looking Jordan's Pond. It was so worth it. You can see the ocean back behind Jordan's pond as well.
| After our hike, we went down to Jordan's Pond and admired what we had just accomplished. The North Bubble is on the left. |
