2016: Memorial Day weekend part 1

School's OUT for SUMMER!
Yahoo!
We are super excited to take our first long weekend trip in the Motorcoach.  We are thinking of naming it, 4 Wahls 2.    Our houseboat was 4 Wahls (there were four walls and four Wahls...lol.)  Thanks to my brother Corey for that one!

We headed to Louisville, Kentucky area for the holiday weekend.  Jason took Friday off work and we were on the road at 10:30 a.m.  Miss Llewsie Llew did not go with us this weekend.  We knew we would be gone a bulk of Saturday at Mammoth Cave National Park and didn't want to leave her that long.   About half way, we stopped in Southern Ohio at a Flying  J for fuel and lunch.  Best part is we didn't even have to go into the truck stop to use the bathroom, we used our own.

351 miles from Canton to Sheperdsville, Kentucky on Friday.

We stayed at the Louisville South KOA

After camp was set up; the kids hit the pool.  Free S'mores that night for all the kids. The campground was busy over the holiday weekend, and they did have plenty for the kids to do. Free S'mores, movies, mini-golf, pool, playground, and a bouncy pit.

We were up early Saturday morning and hopped on the road 78 miles to Mammoth Cave National Park.  We followed the GPS but there were three ways to enter into the National Park. Jason kept asking me if we were going the right way....out in the country.  Coming over a hill, we did not except to see this!  To cross the Green River, you had to take this old style three car ferry.  Kids thought that was pretty cool.

When I had looked into the park information months ago, it was highly recommended to make tour reservations.  When we got to will-call, every tour for the day was sold out, so I was thankful I did make reservations.  We did the Historic Tour, it was 2 hours and about 2 miles.  We descended over 440 steps, and were over 300 feet below ground. It was pretty cool.  Fat Man's Misery, we decided was also Tall Wahl's misery.  Charlie loved it, we only had to duck one time.

On our way back to camp, we realized that Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace National Park was close by, so we checked that out too.
Few shots of Charlie loving the mini-golf and the kids on the bounce pit at camp.
Charlie and Lily absolutely loved this bucket spinner on the playground. Might have to find where we can get one of these.
It was a great day to be a Wahl.
