We took a day to drive from Key Largo and Key West. It's about 100 miles all on a two-lane highway. So if you get stuck behind a truck, you are stuck until the pull off. We knew that July was going hot in Southern Florida, but it was almost unbearable at times. It was 96 degrees and about 95% humidity!
We knew that this would be an all day trip and wouldn't be able to leave our Llewsie puppy for more than 5 or 6 hours. She's only 6 months old. Luckily, Key West is a true dog friendly town.
After we walked around town for a bit, we went to the very edge of the island where the cruise ships dock and had a bucket of beers, cold drinks for the kids, and appetizers.
Miss Llewsie even was served up a bucket of ice! She was very happy. Everywhere we went, offered the pup water and/or ice.

Mallory Square, sights for all! Always a bird dog.
We would have loved to actually go inside Hemingway's house, but no pups allowed.
I absolutely love this style house.
President Harry Truman found this tropical island the perfect winter getaway. It's located on a Navy Annex property. Overall, it was a good day, but so incredibily hot it was difficult to stay hydrated while we walked around. Jason and I both would love to go back kid & puppy free at some point.
